SRD operates a $4.5 M research facility in Orono, ME. This 28,000 sq ft facility was designed and built specifically for developing chemical and biological detection systems. Our facility houses fully equipped chemistry, microbiology, and optics labs, an electronic fabrication shop, and a machine shop.
SRD’s laboratories currently support 26 test setups for sensor research. Nineteen setups contain gas delivery systems and sensor testing instrumentation. These systems provide the capacity to simultaneously test approximately 200 gas sensors in a variety of real-world scenarios. Additional capabilities include gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, ultra-violet/visible spectrometry, laser cavity ringdown spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and enhanced Raman Spectroscopy.
SRD’s laboratories comply fullywith OSHA guidelines for safe laboratory practices. The facilities also meet all Federal, State and local laws and regulations for disposal, handling, and storage of: toxic and hazardous materials, waterborne effluents and solid waste.
